Description
DYNAMIC AGING 6-Class Series
Instructor: Joan Virginia Allen
This course was recorded from a live class series taught by Joan Allen, one of the co-authors of Dynamic Aging: Simple Exercises for Whole Body Mobility, with appearances by the other three sassy, septuagenarian co-authors.
This series is part book study/ part exercise class covering the exercises in the book, Dynamic Aging: Simple Exercises for Whole-Body Mobility, as well as the lifestyle components that have allowed these amazing women to improve their strength, mobility, and vitality over the last ten years, rather than suffer the decline that we've come to associate as the "norm" for folks "of their age".
Dynamic Aging is an exercise guide to restoring movement, and while geared to the “over 50” crowd, it is written for ALL of us, no matter our age… after all, we are ALL aging ?
Want to age better than your peers and stay strong and mobile - or get stronger and more mobile? This course is for you!
In this Series, you will learn:
- How your pain and lack of mobility may not be due to your age, but your habits
- Changing how you move can change how you feel, no matter your age
- Exercises and postural adjustments requiring no special equipment with modifications for all fitness levels
- How to move for healthy feet, improved balance, and activities of daily life
- To move and feel better!
Note: The book is not necessary to do this class series as it is primarily an exercise series, but may be helpful in understanding some of the content discussed.
Series Outline:
Class One: Chapter One
Class Two: Chapters Two and Three
Class Three: Chapter Four
Class Four: Chapter Five and Daily Activities
Class Five: Walking Review and Intro to Hanging at a park, then back in the studio for Chapter Six (The outdoor walking portion is very loud and the sound quality very poor, so I’ve added subtitles to give the gist of the instructions. This is from just before 1:12 to just after 1:20.)
Class Six: Whole-Body Mobility Flow from book (with printable pdf)
Description of the book DYNAMIC AGING:
"Biomechanist and movement teacher Katy Bowman shares exercises and habit modifications for varying fitness and mobility levels.
Alongside Bowman's instructions are the stories, experiences, and advice of four women (all teachers or students at the B.E.A.C.H.!) over seventy-five who've used these principles and exercises for years. Along the way they have found recommended surgeries unnecessary, regained strength and mobility, and ended up moving more than they did when they were a decade younger. From hiking in the mountains to climbing ladders and walking on cobblestones with ease, each of these women embodies the book's message: No matter where you're starting, if you change how you move, you can change how you feel."
